Why this routing

More on Palawan

The two halves of northern Palawan: Bacuit Bay's limestone lagoons, then Coron's WWII wreck fleet, sitting in water shallow enough for recreational divers.

Palawan's north holds two entirely different landscapes within a short hop of each other. El Nido is vertical — limestone towers with lagoons hidden inside them, entered by kayak through gaps that close at high tide. Coron is horizontal and submerged: a Japanese fleet sunk in 1944, now reefed over and diveable without technical certification.

    Stop 01 of 02

    El Nido Resorts Pangulasian Island

Pangulasian · Bacuit Bay, El Nido

Big and Small Lagoons, island hopping, sunrise and sunset from one island

Arrive by Light aircraft and boat

See El Nido Resorts Pangulasian Island
    1. Day 1

Manila to Lio, then Bacuit Bay

A direct flight to the Lio airstrip, then about thirty minutes by boat. Pangulasian faces both sunrise and sunset, which very few El Nido islands do.

    2. Day 2

      Big and Small Lagoons

Out early on a private banca, ahead of the day boats. Both lagoons are entered by kayak through gaps in the rock that close at high tide.

    3. Day 3

      The house reef

Snorkelling starts where the sand ends. El Nido Resorts run one of the better reef-monitoring programmes in the Philippines and will show you what it covers.

    4. Day 4

      Bacuit Bay by tank

The PADI centre opens up more than twenty karst sites, all reachable from the island — among the best diving in the country.

    5. Day 5

      Sunrise and sunset

The one day for the island itself. Kayaks are yours throughout, the Clubhouse handles the rest, and a hilot massage at the spa closes it.

  2. Stop 02 of 02

    Chosen with you

4 nights held, property still open

Wreck diving, Kayangan Lake, house reef, dugong spotting

Which property is right here moves with the month you travel and with what the rest of the routing is doing, so we choose it with you rather than print it now.

    1. Day 6

      North to Coron

The second half moves to Coron Bay and a sunken fleet. The base here is chosen with you — Coron's good properties are few and they fill early.

    2. Day 7

      The wrecks

A Japanese fleet sunk in 1944, reefed over since, and diveable without technical certification. Guided, and visibility decides the order.

    3. Day 8

      Kayangan Lake

Often called the cleanest lake in the Philippines. A climb over a limestone ridge, then brackish water held inside the karst.

    4. Day 9

      Reef and open water

The last full day is a boat day. Dugongs are a possibility rather than a promise — nobody can schedule them.

  1. Day 10

    Busuanga to Manila

The airstrip is close. Internal flights here move, so the day is built with slack in it.
