Why this routing

More on Bora Bora

A night in Tahiti to absorb the flight, then eight over the Bora Bora lagoon with Mount Otemanu in the window. Nobody should fly this far for less.

Bora Bora is a genuinely long journey from Asia or the Gulf, and the mistake is to arrive exhausted and leave in five nights. This builds in a Papeete night on the way in, then puts you on the lagoon long enough for the view to stop being a photograph. The Otemanu sightline from Motu Tehotu is among the best on the water.

Day by day

10 nights across 2 islands

  1. Stop 01 of 02

    Chosen with you

1 night held, property still open

Papeete overnight to absorb the long-haul arrival

Which property is right here moves with the month you travel and with what the rest of the routing is doing, so we choose it with you rather than print it now.

    1. Day 1

      A night in Papeete

This is the longest flight of the six destinations. A night in Tahiti on the way in means Bora Bora starts rested rather than jet-lagged. Where you stay is chosen with you.

  2. Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora9 nights

    1. Day 2

      Domestic flight, then the boat

Fifty minutes to Bora Bora, then the resort boat from the airport motu. Four Seasons sits on Motu Tehotu with one of the best Otemanu sightlines on the water.

    2. Day 3

      The lagoon

A private tour with rays and blacktip reef sharks. The lagoon is the destination here and the island is the backdrop to it.

    3. Day 4

      Ruahatu

The resort's own sanctuary — a sheltered inner lagoon with coral grafting, water sculptures and a resident marine biologist, snorkellable at your own pace.

    4. Day 5

      Coral restoration

A session with the marine team, grafting fragments onto the sanctuary frames.

    5. Day 6

      A motu picnic

Out to an outer-reef islet with lunch. The reef side is rougher water and a different island entirely.

    6. Day 7

      Otemanu

The mountain is the view from every deck; this is the day to stop photographing it and swim instead. Te Mahana's overwater treatment room faces it, with a tub outside.

    7. Day 8

      The coral gardens

Shallow enough to stand in, and off the resort rather than out at the pass. Vaimiti is overwater and does the sunset.

    8. Day 9

A day with nothing in it

Nine nights on one lagoon is the point of this routing rather than a gap in it. Kayak the motu, or do not leave the deck.

    9. Day 10

      The last full day

Sunset Restaurant faces west over the water, which is the right place to end it. Arii Moana does the evening properly if you would rather.

  1. Day 11

    Boat, then out through Papeete

The connection home is long. We build the day around it rather than against it.
